Privacy Policy

A plain-language description of what this site actually does with data, not formal legal counsel.
What This Site Collects
Comments. Articles on this site use a comment system that requires a verified email address to post (no anonymous commenting). When you leave a comment, the system stores your email address, the display name you choose, your comment text, and technical data (like your IP address) used to prevent spam and abuse. This data is stored on a server I run myself — it is never sold, and never shared with anyone except as required by law. You can ask to have your comments and account data deleted at any time — the comment system has a built-in “delete my data” option.
Nothing else on this site collects personal data directly. There are no contact forms, no newsletter signup, and no account system beyond the comments above.
Third-Party Services
A few embedded services can see that your browser loaded a page here, as an ordinary side effect of how they work:
- Cloudflare Turnstile — before the comment box loads on any article, a bot-check runs to keep the comment system usable. This means Cloudflare can see the IP address of anyone who reaches that check, whether or not they end up commenting — not just people who post.
- Google Fonts — this site loads typefaces (IBM Plex) from Google’s font service (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com), which means your browser makes a request to Google when you load a page, and Google can see your IP address as an ordinary side effect. - Embedded X (Twitter) posts — My First Month With a Second Brain embeds a real X post using X’s own widget script; that page also links out to a couple of X articles as static preview cards, which don’t load any X script. X’s own cookies may apply to the live embed, per X’s privacy policy, independent of anything this site does.
None of these is an analytics or advertising tracker — this site runs no ad network and no visitor-tracking analytics of its own.
What The Server Records
Like nearly every web server, this one keeps an access log: the page requested, the time, your IP address, and your browser’s user-agent string. It’s used to see whether the site is working and roughly how much it’s being read. Logs rotate and are deleted automatically after a few days. They are not sold, not shared, and not linked to anything else.
Links to Other Sites
This site’s footer (and some articles) link to AdBlob (adblob.com), a separate site I also run, which does contain affiliate links. Following that link takes you to AdBlob’s own privacy policy, not this one — see its Affiliate Disclosure and privacy pages there.
Changes
If what this site collects or how it’s handled changes, this page gets updated at the same time.
